Ryanair to sue screen scraping website

2009-07-30

Ryanair is to sue Travelviva AG for engaging in unauthorised screen scraping activity, it has been reported.

The airline has accused the German screen scraping travel website of reselling Ryanair flights with unjustified mark-ups, according to SiliconRepublic.com.

Ryanair has claimed that Travelviva has refused to stop these actions and has turned down the airline's offer of licensed access to Ryanair.com's flight data for price-comparison purposes, the website revealed.

The website cited the airline's Daniel de Carvalho as saying: "Ryanair is determined to continue its crusade against screen scraping ticket-tout websites until the last screen scraper stops overcharging unsuspecting consumers and breaching Ryanair's copyright and terms of use of www.ryanair.com."

He added that Ryanair has written to numerous consumer protection and competition agencies across Europe asking them to look into the damaging practices of certain screen scrapers.

In more positive news for the company, it recently announced its first quarter net profit stood at €136.5 million (£117.8 million).
