Ryanair takes German screen scraping ticket tout to court

2009-08-20

Ryanair has taken a German internet ticket tout to court, accusing it of unauthorised screen scraping and reselling the airline's flights at inflated prices.

Unister GmbH has been taken to the High Court in Dublin by Ryanair, which has claimed the German organisation refused an offer of licensed access to the airline's website for legitimate price comparison purposes.

The case forms part of Ryanair's campaign against the unauthorised actions of screen scraping ticket touts.

It is bringing action against numerous unauthorised screen scraping organisations across Europe.

"Our strategy of defending consumer rights in Irish courts is proving successful and the number of active screen scrapers is rapidly decreasing," commented Ryanair's Stephen McNamara.

He said that Ryanair was left with no other choice than to refer Unister to Dublin High Court.

The airline recently announced that four screen scraping ticket tout websites had signed legally binding declarations to cease scraping Ryanair's website and selling its flights to German consumers at inflated prices.
