Internet 'full of dangers like screen scraping'

2009-07-07

The internet is full of dangers such as screen scraping, data stealing malware and hackers, it has been said.

In its blog, payment services firm HomeATM said that typing financial data into the internet will be safer today than it is tomorrow as the web becomes a more dangerous place.

It asserted that consumers cannot realistically anticipate that their card numbers will be safe, with hackers becoming increasingly advanced in their attempts to steal financial information, which may lead more organisations to protect from the screen scrapers that HomeATM spoke of.

While making purchases online may seem like a convenient way to buy items or other goods things are often not what they seem and it is difficult to ascertain what hackers will come up with in the future, HomeATM added.

Sentor experts believe that anyone who publishes original content on the web is to some extent affected by scraping, which can be damaging to a business.
